With Jhon Cordoba out, Colombia is wary of Switzerland's strength in the last 16

The Colombian national team will be without striker Jhon Cordoba when they face Switzerland in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup at BC Place, Vancouver.

The loss of the striker presents an additional challenge for Colombia, who are aiming to continue their run as one of the dark horses of the 2026 World Cup.

"Jhon Cordoba has a muscle tear. Unfortunately, he will not be available for the rest of the tournament. We miss him, but the rest of the players have fully recovered," Colombia coach Nestor Lorenzo was quoted as saying by FIFA on Tuesday.

Despite losing Cordoba, Lorenzo still has high respect for Switzerland, who will be their opponents in the knockout phase.

He believes La Nati has balanced qualities in both defense and attack, and is supported by experience performing on the big stage.

"Switzerland are good at both attack and defense. Their head coach has been with them for four or five years, I think," said Lorenzo.

"They've played in two World Cups, some of them in Qatar, and they have a lot of experience. It's going to be a tough game against a very good team."
