German tennis player Alexander Zverev cruised into the third round of Wimbledon after winning straight sets in the second round at the All England Club, London, .
The world No. 3 defeated Valentin Royer 6-1, 6-3, 7-6(3) in two hours and four minutes to claim his 50th tour-level victory on grass.
"For two and a half sets, I played an almost perfect match. Then I lost focus a little bit, and he capitalized on it very well," Zverev was quoted as saying by the ATP.
Zverev fired 14 aces and converted five of his eight break points . The Roland Garros champion is now on a nine-match winning streak at Grand Slam level.
"He made the match very exciting in the end, but I'm really happy to get through in straight sets and not have to play another set. It feels good to have an easy win to start the week."
Despite being one of the most consistent men's tennis players over the past decade, Zverev has never been past the fourth round at Wimbledon.
The 25-time tour-level title winner has reached the finals of three other Grand Slam tournaments, and in the next two weeks will be looking to become the 13th player in the modern era to reach the finals of all four.
In the next round, Zverev will face Marcos Giron, who previously easily defeated Quentin Halys 7-6(5), 6-3, 6-4.
