Bayern Munich's German player Jamal Musiala lost consciousness during a friendly match against Heidenheim, in an incident that raised concerns after it happened for the second time in three days.
Musiala, 23, came on as a substitute in the second half, but collapsed on the pitch just 6 minutes after entering, before regaining consciousness and leaving the field accompanied by the medical staff, while Bayern's coaching staff decided to make a reverse substitution and take him out of the game.
The match ended with Bayern Munich winning 4-2, but attention was focused on Musiala's condition, especially since the player had experienced the same situation during the match against Leipzig just three days earlier.
Following the incident, Musiala was keen to reassure his fans, explaining via his Instagram account that what happened was related to a temporary nervous condition.
The player said he understands the level of concern among the fans, explaining that he suffers from short, temporary episodes of unconsciousness, a condition that is easily treatable, according to him.
The incident brings to mind similar cases witnessed in football stadiums in recent years, including the incident of Dane Christian Eriksen, who lost consciousness during a friendly match last June, after having previously suffered a cardiac arrest five years earlier.
