Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal club announced on Monday the termination of the contract with its French star Karim Benzema.
The Saudi club said in a statement on its official website, "Al-Hilal Company has agreed with Frenchman Benzema to terminate the contractual relationship between the two parties by mutual consent, after the period during which he represented Al-Hilal's first football team."
The statement added: "Al Hilal Club appreciates what Benzema has offered during his time with the team, and what he has shown in terms of professionalism, commitment and leadership spirit, in addition to his contributions on and off the field."
Benzema joined Al-Hilal in early February on a free transfer from Al-Ittihad, signing a one-and-a-half-season contract with the "Leader".
Benzema left to make way for English striker Ollie Watkins, who joined Al-Hilal from Aston Villa in a record-breaking deal.
