Algeria’s state-owned energy company, Sonatrach, announced the start of deliveries of the first shipments of Jet A1 jet fuel to the Nigerien market, from the Adrar refinery located in southwestern Algeria.
Sonatrach said the operation, which began Friday evening, comes in implementation of the contract concluded with the Nigerien oil company Sonidep for the export of jet fuel, and embodies the directives of the Algerian authorities aimed at strengthening trade and economic relations with Niger. The company added that the delivery of the shipment represents the start of the actual implementation of the commercial cooperation between Sonatrach and Sonidep, within the framework of the contractual obligations concluded between the two parties.
Sonatrach confirmed that this step reflects its efforts to expand direct cooperation with African oil and gas companies, particularly in the Sahel region, which will contribute to opening new horizons for supplying the region's markets with Algerian petroleum products. The start of jet fuel exports to Niger comes at a time when cooperation between the two countries is gaining momentum, within the framework of strengthening the strategic partnership between Algeria and Niamey.
On Thursday, Algerian Prime Minister Sifi Gharib, along with his Nigerien counterpart Ali Mohamed Lamine Zene, oversaw the launch ceremony for the drilling of the "Kafra South East 1" exploratory well in Niger, in a move reflecting the growing cooperation in the energy sector between the two countries. This came days after the Algerian Ministry of Defense delivered military equipment and supplies, including four helicopters, to its Nigerien counterpart. As part of bilateral cooperation, Algeria is also undertaking the construction of a 40-megawatt power plant in the Groubanda region near the capital Niamey, which it will present to Niger as a gift.
