An agreement has been reached to dissolve the SDF and appoint Mazloum Abdi as an advisor to the Sharia and the Syrian presidency confirms their meeting in Damascus

 

 A well-informed official source  that the Damascus meeting, which brought together  the head of the Syrian government, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, the commander-in-chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces, Mazloum Abdi , and the co-chair of the Department of Foreign Relations in the Democratic Self-Administration, Ilham Ahmed, ended with an agreement to officially dissolve the “SDF” , appoint Abdi as an advisor to the Syrian president, and Ilham Ahmed join the Syrian People’s Assembly.

The source said that the meeting discussed the future of the SDF and the arrangements for the next phase, and concluded with a number of understandings and decisions related to rearranging the relationship between Damascus and the institutions of the self-administration and the forces affiliated with the SDF.

Confirming that the meeting took place, the Syrian Presidency announced that President Ahmed al-Sharaa received Mazloum Abdi in Damascus and discussed with him the steps for integrating the SDF into state institutions.

The source explained that these understandings come within the context of a broader path aimed at rearranging the relationship between Damascus and the institutions of the self-administration and the forces affiliated with the “SDF”, and placing the outstanding issues within the frameworks of the Syrian state institutions, in line with the political, administrative and security arrangements being discussed between the two sides.

According to the source, the meeting came within the framework of discussing a number of files and issues of common interest, and discussing developments and updates in the region, in addition to discussing ways to deal with files that require direct coordination between Damascus and representatives of the Autonomous Administration and the SDF.

The meeting comes amid ongoing contacts between the Syrian government and the SDF regarding the future of the region and arrangements for integrating the institutions and forces affiliated with the Autonomous Administration into state institutions, at a time when discussions are continuing on a number of security, administrative and political issues related to the future of northeastern Syria.
