Filipino tennis players Alexandra Eala, Elena Rybakina, and Coco Gauff advanced to the round of 16 of the 2026 WTA 1000 National Bank Open in Toronto after winning their third-round matches on Saturday, Western Indonesian Time.
Eala, the 25th seed, had to work hard before eliminating American Caty McNally in a three-set battle with a score of 6-3, 5-7, 6-4, as quoted from the organizer's website.
Eala started the match confidently after coming back from 1-3 down and winning five straight games to secure the first set.
The 21-year-old regained the lead in the second set after breaking McNally's serve to take a 2-1 lead. However, Eala began experiencing leg problems and required several medical treatments.
This situation affected Eala's movement, allowing McNally to capitalize on the situation and rally. The American eventually took the second set 7-5, forcing the match into a decider.
Eala managed to reset the third set by breaking McNally's serve in the opening game. She maintained the lead until the end of the match, securing her place in the round of 16.
