Armenian security forces today carried out searches as part of criminal cases related to corruption, and former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan was arrested and taken to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Yerevan.Today reported: "According to Yerevan.Today, early this morning, Second President Robert Kocharyan was taken to the Anti-Corruption Commission." Kocharyan's office later confirmed on Tuesday that investigators had transferred the former president to the anti-corruption commission.
Anti-Corruption Commission spokeswoman Marina Oganian said: "As part of the criminal case being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission regarding corruption offenses, searches and other procedures are being carried out at dozens of addresses."
Members of the Armenian National Security Service also carried out a search of the home of Levon Kocharyan, a member of parliament from the Armenian opposition faction "Hayastan" and the son of the former Armenian president. Levon Kocharyan’s party colleague Mesrop Manukyan posted footage showing members of the National Security Service attempting to enter the home of the son of former Armenian President Kocharyan.
He wrote on Facebook: "At around 7 a.m., security forces stormed the home of Member of Parliament Levon Kocharyan. The instructions came directly from the parliament building."
Manukyan also noted that there were three minor children in the house. Kocharyan served as President of Armenia from 1998 to 2008.
