Raphinha opened Barcelona's lead in the first half, while Fermin Lopez doubled the lead after halftime.
This victory puts Hansi Flick's team at the top of the standings with six points, only ahead of second-placed Real Madrid on goal difference, according to LaLiga.
Barcelona immediately played aggressively from the start. Lamine Yamal had the first chance in the 11th minute after breaking through from the right flank. However, his left-footed shot went wide.
Yamal threatened again in the 19th minute. After receiving the ball from Raphinha, the Barcelona youngster cut inside before unleashing a curling shot.
Athletic goalkeeper Unai Simon made a brilliant save to thwart the opportunity.
Barcelona finally broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. Pedri delivered a perfect through ball that Raphinha tapped in.
The Brazilian player beat the fallen Simon before slotting the ball into an empty net from a tight angle. Barcelona led 1-0 at halftime.
Entering the second half, Barcelona continued to dominate the game. Fermin Lopez almost doubled the lead in the 62nd minute with a powerful volley from inside the penalty area. However, Simon again showed good reflexes to secure the ball.
