Chinese tech giant Huawei and US tech company HP announced the completion of a multi-year global patent cross-licensing agreement, which gives HP access to a number of Huawei's Wi-Fi-related patents.
Industry observers see this intellectual property licensing collaboration as a clear demonstration of Huawei's innovation capabilities and core technological strengths.
"Huawei is committed to independent innovation in the field of cutting-edge information and communications technology," said Alan Fan, Huawei's head of intellectual property.
"Through patent licensing, we share innovation with the industry, bringing advanced technology experiences to consumers worldwide, particularly in standardized technologies."
By the end of 2025, Huawei had signed over 260 patent licensing agreements with leading ICT manufacturers in the US, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and other key markets. In 2025 alone, 34 new patent licensing agreements were signed.
By the end of 2024, more than 1.2 billion consumer electronics devices will have been licensed based on Huawei's Wi-Fi-related patents.
Huawei's patent licensing revenue is expected to reach approximately US$630 million in 2024, according to sources within the company.
