Young Indonesian street dance talents dominated the podium in the 2v2 Kids Openstyle Battle category at the SummerWeek 47 event in Krefeld, Germany, by winning the champion and runner-up positions.
The two pairs, who are members of Team Power of Lock, successfully defeated dancers from various countries before ensuring that Indonesia took the top two positions in the prestigious street dance competition.
"At an event of such a large scale, seeing two teams from Indonesia successfully defeat dancers from various countries and both reach the final was a very precious moment for us," Alexandra Xiomara Lauralee, also known as Axl Suryabara.
The pair Daysha Aliyana Tiawarman and Shayna Chloe Tiawarman became champions, while Sebastian Thanandra and Axl Suryabara secured the runner-up position.
The success of the two couples was an achievement in itself because the final brought together fellow Indonesian dancers who were also members of the Power of Lock crew.
Axl Suryabara said the competition in Germany provided a different experience compared to the competitions they had previously participated in because it brought them together with dancers from various countries.
" Of course, it was a different level. Being able to compete and meet dancers from various countries provided a very valuable experience for Sebastian and me," said Axl Suryabara.
According to Axl, this achievement is inseparable from the consistent training they've undergone. He and Sebastian have been a crew for almost 10 years and have partnered up for the 2v2 battle format for the past two years.
Preparations also coincided with school activities. Axl usually headed straight to the studio after school to practice from around 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, approximately five times a week.
The training is not only intended for battle, but also for various dance competitions with Power of Lock.
"The training isn't just for battle, but also for dance competitions with our team, Power of Lock. So, training has become part of our routine," said Axl.
