"Liverpool can't replace Mohamed Salah": Van Dijk reveals the impact of "Mo's" departure

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has confirmed that Mohamed Salah's departure from the Reds is a loss that will be difficult to compensate for, stressing that the Egyptian star deserves all the praise after the exceptional years he spent at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season, as the contract between the Egyptian international and the Reds was terminated by mutual consent after 9 seasons of great service at Anfield.

Van Dijk said of Mohamed Salah in comments reported by Anfield Sector: “Nothing lasts forever in life. Obviously, you remember Mohamed Salah very well, and he deserves to be remembered because I don’t think Liverpool will be able to replace him. What he has given to this club is fantastic.”

Regarding Liverpool's ambitions this season, he added: "As a captain and player at this club, I want to compete for the Premier League title, but we have to be realistic. We saw the strength of Arsenal last year; they have good depth in their squad."

He concluded: "I feel we have the potential to compete for the Premier League title, but we need to perform much better than we did last year."

Liverpool will begin their Premier League campaign with a match against Newcastle United this evening at St. James' Park.

It is worth noting that Mohamed Salah signed with Trabzonspor in a free transfer deal and on a two-season contract, where the Egyptian Pharaoh will receive a salary of up to 17 million euros per year.
