Manchester City have officially announced the signing of Argentine goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli from French club Olympique Marseille on a two-year contract until the summer of 2028.
This is Rowley's second time joining Manchester City, having previously worn the club's shirt during the 2016-2017 season, but he did not participate in any match with the first team.
The Argentine goalkeeper is 34 years old and has extensive experience in European stadiums, having played for Real Sociedad, Montpellier, Villarreal, Ajax and Marseille.
During his time with Villarreal, Rulli was one of the heroes of the team’s Europa League title win in the 2020-2021 season, after playing a crucial role in the final against Manchester United, where he scored a penalty kick and saved the final penalty taken by David de Gea.
On the international level, Rulli played 8 matches with the Argentine national team, and was part of the squads that won the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Copa America.
City's signing of Rowley is intended to bolster their goalkeeping options, as he joins the team as an experienced backup to first-choice goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, following James Trafford's departure to Leeds United.
Rowley said upon his return to the club that the opportunity to join Manchester City was an exceptional one that could not be refused, stressing his eagerness to work with the team and raise its level.
