Palestinian Presidency: No lasting peace or stability without Jerusalem and ending the occupation

Palestinian presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh warned on Thursday of the repercussions of Israeli settlement expansion in the "E1" area and the escalation of settler attacks and daily killings.

The Palestinian News and Information Agency (WAFA) quoted Abu Rudeineh as saying that Israeli policies towards the Palestinians threaten to push the region into a dangerous and uncontrollable situation, stressing that achieving peace and stability will not be possible without Jerusalem and ending the Israeli occupation.

He added that ignoring international legitimacy resolutions will keep the region in a continuous cycle of wars and conflicts, stressing that any initiatives or plans lacking a real political horizon will not achieve security and peace.

Abu Rudeineh stressed that the solution lies in ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, calling on the international community to move from statements of condemnation to taking practical measures to stop the escalation and compel Israel to respect international law and implement international legitimacy resolutions.

He said that the continued erosion of trust in statements of condemnation requires serious international action to defuse ongoing crises and wars, and to take concrete steps to stop Israeli aggression.
