The Indonesian Taekwondo Association has designated the 8th Asian Taekwondo Indonesia Open Championships 2026 as part of its long-term achievement system development to return Indonesian athletes to the Olympic stage.
"When it comes to targets, Indonesia certainly has to reach the podium. However, what we are building is much bigger because achievements don't happen overnight. They are born from a strong system, continuous competition, targeted development, and the courage to measure our abilities at the global level," said PBTI Chairman Lt. Gen. Richard Tampubolon in a written statement received.
The 2026 Indonesia Open will be attended by 478 taekwondo athletes from 36 countries at the Tennis Indoor Senayan.
The World Taekwondo G2 championship provides athletes with the world ranking points they need to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The Indonesian Open Association fielded 31 athletes for the national training camp, consisting of 20 kyorugi athletes and 11 poomsae athletes. They were selected through the Ksatria Nusantara Series.
