Sony said it has secured the memory supply needed to meet its PlayStation 5 console sales target for fiscal 2026 amidst global memory shortages due to high demand from the artificial intelligence industry.
According to an effort to reassure investors, Sony in its latest financial report said that the company has secured the memory needed to meet PS5 sales projections during the fiscal year ending in April 2027.
"Due to the impact of memory market conditions on PlayStation 5 hardware, we have secured the amount of memory necessary to meet projected sales volumes in fiscal 2026," Sony said.
The company has not announced plans to raise the price of the PS5 in the coming year.
However, Sony will likely see a big boost in PS5 sales over the holidays, as the anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to release on November 19, 2026.
Sony sold 1.6 million PS5 units during the first quarter of fiscal 2026, down from 2.5 million units in the same period the previous year.
A similar decline occurred in the previous quarter, likely due to price increases resulting from US import tariffs and the PS5's age, which is now entering its sixth year.
