League operator PT Liga Utama Indonesia has confirmed that the Championship competition will begin on September 11, opening with a match between PSIS Semarang and PSPS Pekanbaru.
"At the GMS approval was requested from shareholders and it was agreed that September 11th would be the opening for the Championship League in Semarang," said I.League Advisor Budiman Dalimunte after the PT LIU GMS.
He explained that the opening match of the 2026/2027 Championship will be held at a premium stadium, considered the best among other stadiums. Furthermore, adequate commercial and other supporting factors will be taken into consideration.
Therefore, the shareholders agreed that the opening match will be between PSIS Semarang and PSPS Pekanbaru which will take place in Semarang, Central Java.
Furthermore, Budiman explained that the GMS also discussed the entire annual agenda covering activities, business, and finances by all shareholders consisting of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) and 20 clubs that will compete in the upcoming season.
"Thank God, everything has been approved by the 14 clubs as the old shareholders plus the six new teams," he said.
