Media reports today revealed that French President Emmanuel Macron has personally intervened in the Gianni Infantino crisis.
Infantino is facing enormous criticism following his latest project, which he announced, to sell part of FIFA's shares to foreign investors, before this project was withdrawn after the fierce attack to which the Swiss was subjected.
According to Goal.com, citing L'Equipe, Macron contacted Infantino personally to express his complete rejection of his proposal.
The website added that Macron also contacted Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), to publicly announce his support for the position of the European Union, led by its president, Aleksander Ceferin, as UEFA leads a campaign against Infantino and his project.
A source close to the French government confirmed to L'Equipe that Macron is fully involved in the process of opposing Infantino's latest project and that the French president had previously expressed his rejection of the "Super League" project.
The source explained that Macron's intervention demonstrates the extent of Europe's concern about attempts to privatize football, and this issue may end with Infantino's departure from the FIFA presidency, or his not running for a new term.
The website concluded by saying that Infantino is in a predicament, as voices are now rising to demand radical reform in FIFA's management, along with a request to reconsider the commercial approach that the Swiss has followed since taking office.
