The International Olympic Committee declined to comment on the appeal filed by the Ukrainian National Olympic Committee before the Court of Arbitration for Sport challenging the decision to reinstate the Russian Olympic Committee.
The International Olympic Committee confirmed that it would not make any further statements on the matter, noting that its official position was contained in the statement issued on July 7, 2026.
On July 29, the Ukrainian Olympic Committee filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), demanding the annulment of the International Olympic Committee's decision, arguing that it contravened the provisions of the Olympic Charter and that the restoration of the Russian Olympic Committee's rights came before the completion of the necessary reviews and procedures.
On July 7, the International Olympic Committee announced the cancellation of its previous recommendations that called on international sports federations and tournament organizers to impose restrictions on the participation of Russian athletes, and decided to reinstate the Russian Olympic Committee to its provisional status within the Olympic movement.
The International Olympic Committee suspended the membership of the Russian Olympic Committee in October 2023, after Russia announced the inclusion of the Olympic councils of four regions (Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson) into the structure of the Russian Olympic Committee, which the International Olympic Committee considered a violation of the Olympic Charter.
