Israeli army announced on Thursday that an officer and a reserve soldier were killed by an explosive device in the town of Majdal Zoun in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army spokesman explained that the two killed were Major Harel Bernstock and Sergeant Major Tamir Waknin, who served in Battalion 2855 of the 55th Paratroopers Brigade.
The army added that the two soldiers were killed during the explosion of an explosive device in the town of Majdal Zoun, without disclosing further details about the circumstances of the incident.
In contrast, Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon on Wednesday resulted in the death of one Lebanese citizen and injuries to 12 others in the town of Tibnin, while families from the town of Mansouri left their homes following an Israeli evacuation warning, according to the official Lebanese news agency.
These developments on the ground coincided with the end of the second day of indirect negotiations between Lebanon and Israel in the Italian capital, Rome, as part of a round that will continue until Thursday under the auspices of the United States.
These negotiations are taking place despite the continued Israeli violations, after Beirut and Tel Aviv signed, on June 26, the “framework formula,” which stipulates a gradual Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Lebanese territories, in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army and the disarmament of armed groups.
Israel has continued its military operations in Lebanon since March 2, which, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, have resulted in the death of 4,333 people and the injury of 12,250 others.
