Washington intends to warn countries in the Pax Silica technology alliance that they will be excluded from the alliance if they participate in Chinese artificial intelligence development programs.

Reuters reported that the United States is preparing to inform dozens of countries that they must choose sides in the race with China for dominance in artificial intelligence. The US also intends to warn these countries that they will be excluded from the US-led AI alliance if they join Beijing's rival initiative.

The agency reviewed a draft of the letter that the US State Department intends to send to 35 countries. These countries include members of Pax Silica, as well as countries that have expressed interest in cooperating with the United States in the field of artificial intelligence development.

The document emphasized that joining Pax Silica entails commitments, adding, "This cannot be reconciled with participation in various initiatives whose objectives conflict with our own." It was not specified when the US side might send this message.

Reuters noted that Kazakhstan is the only country that is simultaneously a member of Pax Silica and the similar Chinese initiative. It quoted a US official as saying that the message was worded in such a way as to make it clear to other countries that they would not be able to cooperate with both the United States and China in this area.

The US initiative “PaxSilica” aims to create innovative supply chains for semiconductors, basic metals, energy sources, and artificial intelligence technologies.

Australia, Britain, Germany, Israel, India, Italy, the UAE, South Korea, Japan and other countries have joined the technology alliance.
