For the third consecutive day, underground operations are continuing at the "Sukari" gold mine in Egypt, following a tragic rockslide that killed one worker and injured five others.

This decision, issued by the "Al-Sukari Gold Mines" company in Marsa Alam, came as a precautionary and immediate measure, with the aim of reviewing all safety measures and providing the necessary requirements for the safety of workers at the mine located in the Eastern Desert in the Egyptian Red Sea Governorate.
The administration stressed that no activities should be resumed in the aforementioned tunnels before ensuring that the situation is fully stable and that the highest occupational safety standards are applied.
In the same context, the official investigation authorities in the city of Al-Qusayr initiated their legal procedures to uncover the circumstances of the incident, as a judicial team moved to the site of the accident in the heart of the mine to conduct the necessary field inspection of the tunnels in question.
The investigating authorities also listened to the testimonies of a number of mine officials, engineers and workers who were present at the site at the time of the accident, in order to ascertain the details of the operating mechanisms followed, determine the extent of compliance with safety and security procedures, in addition to monitoring the emergency plan and the steps that were taken immediately after the rock fell.
The incident resulted in the death of worker Abdul Rahman Nabil Mahmoud, and injuries to five of his colleagues while they were performing their duties inside the underground operating area, which prompted raising the state of security and monitoring alert to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the mine, which is one of the largest gold mines in the region.
