Bulgarian police are continuing their search for the suspect and are working to identify witnesses who may help uncover the circumstances of the crime.
Authorities set up checkpoints at the exits of Plovdiv, subjecting suspicious vehicles to searches, as part of the search for the perpetrator of the attack.
Filipov took over as president of Botev Plovdiv in June 2025, and also owned two companies operating in the construction and transport sectors.
Botev Plovdiv competes in the Bulgarian Premier League and is in ninth place in the standings after 10 rounds.
The crime comes at a time when authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the motives behind the attack and the identity of the perpetrator.
