The Saudi Arabian Football Federation issued an official statement on Sunday evening in coordination with the Roshan League Association, commenting on the events of the Al-Taawon and Al-Hilal match.
The match witnessed an unfortunate incident in which the name of the late Portuguese Diogo Jota, the former Liverpool striker, was chanted in an attempt to provoke his compatriot Ruben Neves, the Al-Hilal star, with whom he had a strong friendship.
Al-Hilal Club issued a statement condemning this behavior, stressing its complete rejection of this conduct by Al-Taawon fans.
The Saudi Arabian Football Federation and the Roshan League expressed their strong condemnation of the unacceptable practices witnessed during the Al-Hilal vs. Al-Taawon match by some fans, which are contrary to the values of Saudi football and sportsmanship.
The Saudi Federation confirmed at the end of its statement that the practices were monitored by the competent committees and that the regulatory measures have already been taken regarding these events in accordance with the approved regulations and bylaws, and they will be announced as soon as they are completed.
Al-Hilal now leads the Saudi Roshan League after its big win over Al-Taawon, raising its tally to 18 points from 7 matches.
