Accompany the strengthening of teacher competency with equitable distribution

Deputy Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly  Lestari Moerdijat said that improving teacher competency must be ensured to go hand in hand with equitable distribution so that quality education can be enjoyed throughout Indonesia.

"Teachers are the leaders of literacy and innovation in the field. It's not enough to just improve their competency; we must also ensure equitable distribution so that every Indonesian child has equal access to quality learning," he said.

According to him, strengthening teacher competency and distributing teachers must be implemented simultaneously. Implementing learning, particularly in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, will be difficult to achieve equitable distribution if teacher distribution issues remain unresolved.

"Competent teachers, but with an uneven distribution, will not be able to improve the quality of education nationally. Conversely, equal distribution of teachers without improving competency will not result in innovative and high-quality learning," he said.

He cited data from the 2025-2029 Strategic Plan of the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel , which shows that the national need for teachers reaches 3,249,356 people, while the number of teachers currently available is 2,526,572 people.
