Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa said in his speech during the second day of the general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York that Israel launched 500 air raids on Syria, carried out more than 1,200 incursions and 300 arrest operations, considering that these moves contradict the international trends supporting Syria’s return to the international community.
Al-Sharaa stressed that the Golan will remain Syrian land, and that Damascus will confront any attempt to infringe upon its sovereignty based on international law and Security Council Resolution 497, which rejected Israel’s decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration on the occupied Syrian Golan, and considered it null and void and without international legal effect.
He said that more than 100 countries have begun communicating with Syria through about 4,000 contacts, while Damascus has hosted more than 60 diplomatic missions, considering that his country has regained its position within the international community and has returned to building diplomatic bridges with various countries.
Al-Sharaa noted his government's transparent cooperation with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the International Atomic Energy Agency, emphasizing Syria's commitment to international agreements and preventing the dangers of chemical and nuclear weapons. He also discussed combating transnational organized crime, seizing large quantities of Captagon, and addressing human trafficking.
In the economic sphere, the Syrian president stated that the Caesar Act had been repealed and sanctions lifted, coinciding with expanded cooperation with the European Union and Syria's removal from the list of state sponsors of terrorism. He added that his country had restarted more than 5,000 production lines and recorded an increase in agricultural output to enhance self-sufficiency, in addition to revitalizing the services and housing sectors.
In 2025, the Security Council decided to remove Ahmed al-Sharaa’s name from the sanctions list related to the Islamic State (ISIS) and al-Qaeda.
Al-Sharaa said that 3.5 million refugees and displaced persons have returned to their areas in what he described as a safe and dignified manner, and that his government launched the “Syria Without Camps” initiative to end the displacement phase, in parallel with rebuilding universities and schools and ensuring the continued provision of services to citizens.
