Local sources explained that all fires in vegetation, agricultural crops and palm oases that broke out in several areas during the period between the first and second of September 2026 have been extinguished.
In an official tally released this morning, it was explained that the total number of fires recorded was 33, which the field teams were able to fully control, confirming that there were no active hotspots or ongoing fires until 7:00 AM (local time).
In this context, authorities indicated that close monitoring and proactive intervention operations are ongoing on a large scale, with the aim of reducing the risk of any new fires breaking out or spreading, especially given the sensitive climatic conditions in several regions of the country. This necessitates heightened vigilance to protect natural resources and lives.
It is worth noting that two days ago, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune directed that the penal code be amended to include penalties for arson , following massive fires in the eastern regions of the country that resulted in a large number of deaths (approximately 73) and hundreds of injuries, in addition to catastrophic material and livestock losses.
