Young Russian Mira Andreeva achieved her best result in the history of her participation in the US Open tennis tournament, by qualifying for the round of 16 after defeating Czech Nicola Bartonkova in straight sets.
The Russian player, ranked fifth in the world, won the match 6-2 and 7-6 in a game that lasted one hour and 39 minutes.
The 19-year-old will face Austria's representative, Russian-born Anastasia Potapova, in order to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Potapova, ranked 25th, secured her place in the round of 16 after defeating American Amanda Anisimova, a former US Open finalist, 6-2, 7-5.
By eliminating Anisimova, Potapova achieved her best Grand Slam result by qualifying for the round of 16 at the US Open.
