"I'm speaking from the perspective that I feel we're trying to emulate Spain. Because I'm in Spain now, I know we have players who are just as good. But they have different qualities. So why would you try to make those players the same as the Spanish players?" Gordon was quoted as saying by The Guardian on Thursday.
Gordon believes England should develop a playing style based on the characteristics and strengths of their own players, rather than adopting other countries' approaches.
"We can't keep looking at other countries and trying to imitate them, because we're not them. We're English, and we have our own strengths that they don't. So, maybe we should start playing in a way that's our strength," he said.
The player, who joined Barcelona from Newcastle United, admitted that he gained a new understanding of the differences in the approach to English and Spanish football after playing in LaLiga.
