The National Institute of Public Health in the Democratic Republic of Congo announced on Friday that the number of confirmed Ebola cases in the country has risen to 7,475.
The institute's daily report stated: "In the past 24 hours, 71 new infections and 28 deaths were recorded, and 22 people recovered. Thus, the total number of infected people has reached 7,475, and the number of deaths has reached 3,605 since the beginning of the outbreak."
Denis Logunov, director of the Russian Gamaleya National Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, had previously told the Izvestia newspaper that a new Russian vaccine against Ebola had been successfully tested on live samples of the virus, while the press office of the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the interest of African countries in the Russian vaccine.
It is worth noting that to date, no vaccine or official treatment has been licensed for the new strain of the Ebola virus known as Bundibugyo.
Ebola fever, or hemorrhagic fever, is a serious viral disease that affects humans and is often fatal. It is transmitted through contact with the body fluids of an infected person, such as blood and saliva, or contaminated objects. Controlling the disease depends on the early isolation of infected individuals and adherence to strict infection control procedures.
