Xi held talks with Modi in the Indian capital, New Delhi, on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Leaders' Summit, according..
The Chinese leader arrived in New Delhi on Saturday for the BRICS Leaders' Summit, on his first visit to India in seven years.
He called on the two Himalayan countries to “join hands to achieve high-quality development to enhance BRICS cooperation.”
The two leaders' meeting on Saturday was their third consecutive meeting in three years, following one in Kazan, Russia, in 2024 and another on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin in 2025.
Xi and Modi also met at the SCO summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, which also took place this year, but they did not hold formal talks.
Xi last visited India in 2019, months before a military standoff between the two countries' troops in Ladakh that lasted more than four years and brought bilateral relations to their lowest point in six decades.
Bilateral relations between the two countries have gradually improved in recent years, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visiting China last year and both countries taking a number of steps to re-establish high-level relations between China and India.
