The Chinese government dismissed two senior generals from the Central Military Commission and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for serious violations of discipline and alleged office-related crimes.
The two generals who were dismissed were Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli.
Zhang serves as second in command to President Xi Jinping as vice chairman of the Central Military Commission , China's highest military command body, while Liu is a member of the CMC and chief of staff of the CMC's Joint Staff Department.
"Based on the 'Regulations of the Communist Party of China on Disciplinary Sanctions' and other related provisions, after being discussed at a standing meeting of the Central Military Commission and submitted for discussion at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, it was decided to expel Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli from party membership," Chinese state media reported as accessed.
The Central Military Commission's Commission for Discipline Inspection and Supervision has been investigating the two since January 2026. Both were dismissed from the Central Military Commission in late August.
The investigation found that Zhang Youxia and Liu Zhenli had "betrayed their original ideals and mission, strayed from the party in thought and action, lost their party principles, and crossed the line."
"Both committed serious violations of political discipline and regulations, forming small groups, and being disloyal and dishonest to the party; committing serious violations of organizational discipline by exploiting their positions to help others obtain promotions and other benefits, and accepting very large sums of money," the report stated.
They also committed serious violations of integrity discipline by accepting gifts and money illegally; and committed serious violations of work discipline by failing to fulfill their political responsibility to uphold party governance thoroughly and strictly.
In addition, both of them also committed serious violations of personal life discipline by neglecting to educate and supervise relatives and staff around them.
Although it was not stated who the staff in question were or how much money the two received, the report stated that political and economic issues were intertwined in the case of the two.
"Corruption and the accumulation of wealth go hand in hand with negligence and abuse of duty. The value of the cases is enormous, the nature of the violations is extremely serious, and the impact is devastating," it said.
