UEFA, led by Aleksander Ceferin, attacked Infantino after the latter proposed selling part of FIFA's shares to outside investors in order to oversee the organization of the World Cup tournaments.
FIFA has accused UEFA of orchestrating a disinformation campaign by requesting access to documents related to Gianni Infantino’s project through a letter sent to a court in Florida, according to Mundo Deportivo.
She stated that FIFA, which is asking US courts to reject UEFA's request, believes that the latter is trying to influence the course of the FIFA presidential elections scheduled for next year, for which Gianni Infantino is currently the sole candidate.
The newspaper added that last month UEFA asked a US federal court for permission to obtain certificates and documents for a criminal case it intends to file in Switzerland against the FIFA president regarding a scheme to transfer the commercial rights to the World Cup to a subsidiary called FFE.
FIFA wrote, as reported by Mundo Deportivo: "UEFA claims without any basis that Infantino intended to gain personal benefit from his latest proposal."
She concluded: "UEFA's insinuations that Infantino violated any law or ethical principle are completely unfounded."
