Turkish club Trabzonspor is preparing to officially announce the appointment of German Thomas Reiss as the team's manager, succeeding Fatih Teke, who left his post after a series of negative results.
The club is expected to present its new coach during a signing ceremony to be held in the Babara Park, in the presence of the club's vice president, Ziyat Kafkas, after reaching an agreement regarding Reis taking over the task of leading the team during the next stage.
Trabzonspor had entered into negotiations with the German coach, who had previously had an experience in the Turkish league with Samsunspor, before moving on to coach Ludogorets of Bulgaria.
According to reports, the current agreement extends until the end of the 2026-2027 season, with Trabzonspor management aiming to build a long-term project with the German coach, with the future of the collaboration to be determined based on results and performance.
Reis's task will not be easy, as he faces a tough test at the start of his journey with the team, when he takes on Galatasaray in the sixth round of the Turkish League.
Reiss is 52 years old and has achieved remarkable results during his coaching career, most notably leading Bochum to promotion to the German Bundesliga after an 11-year absence, in addition to winning the German Second Division title.
He also achieved notable victories with Bochum against Bayern Munich with a score of 4-2, and against Borussia Dortmund with a score of 4-3.
After leaving Bochum, Reiss took over as coach of Schalke during a difficult period, and managed to lead the team to a series of matches without defeat, before the club was relegated in the final round of the season.
Reis had another experience in Turkey with Samsunspor, and succeeded in leading the team to third place in the Turkish League with 64 points, despite the difficult circumstances the club faced, including a transfer ban.
Before the official announcement of his appointment, Turkish media circulated a picture of a meeting between Thomas Reiss and Mohamed Salah inside the hotel where the German coach was staying in Trabzon.
The meeting comes as part of the moves related to Reis’s arrival at the club, while Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan praised the German coach, stressing that the club’s management had been following him for some time, especially after his experience with Samsunspor.
Dogan noted that Reis showed great enthusiasm for embarking on a new experience with Trabzonspor, to the point that he suggested deducting the value of the penalty clause owed to Ludogorets from his salary.
Reis's appointment came after a turbulent period for Trabzonspor under Fatih Teke's leadership.
The crisis began clearly after the exit against Hungarian Ferencváros with an aggregate score of 5-0 in the Europa League qualifying play-offs, before things worsened with a 2-1 loss to Amedspor.
Teke had hinted at his desire to leave, stressing that he bore responsibility for the team's declining performance, but the club's management initially rejected his resignation and announced its commitment to his continued presence.
But this support did not last long, before Trabzonspor finally announced the departure of the coach and began the search for a new technical leadership, which paved the way for the arrival of Thomas Reis.
