France is working with India to ensure freedom of movement in the Strait of Hormuz and welcomes Pakistan's mediation efforts between Iran and the United States, the French Foreign Ministry said.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot held separate meetings with his counterparts from India and Pakistan on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
In a meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the two ministers "stressed the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation" in the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
Barrot proposed that India cooperate with France on the issue, which he considered "crucial to the stability and prosperity of Europe and Asia."
He also reiterated the Franco-British initiative launched to guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Barrot and Jaishankar reaffirmed France and India's commitment to international law and their shared support for "effective and reformed multilateralism."
They also reaffirmed their intention to reform the UN Security Council.
The two ministers reaffirmed their support for a ceasefire in Ukraine and "a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law."
They also welcomed progress in the “comprehensive and privileged Franco-Indian strategic partnership,” particularly in the areas of defense, new technologies and higher education.
Separately, Barrot met with Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, to discuss developments in the region.
Barrot welcomed Pakistan's mediation efforts between Iran and the US and stressed the need for "the broadest and most inclusive negotiations" to help secure energy supplies in particular, as well as "contacting the ongoing threats posed by Iran in the nuclear, ballistic missile and regional spheres."
The two ministers agreed to continue developing bilateral relations, especially in university cooperation, cultural cooperation, and sustainable development.
The US and Israel launched a large-scale attack on Iran on February 28, targeting government buildings, military sites, missile infrastructure and air defenses.
Iran retaliated with missile and drone attacks on Israel and US bases across the region.
The conflict eased with a ceasefire in April, followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding in June with the aim of reaching a final peace agreement within 60 days.
