After nearly a decade of speculation, Apple is finally preparing to compete with Samsung and Google by unveiling its first foldable iPhone at its highly anticipated annual conference tomorrow.
The phone, which is believed according to leaks to be called the "iPhone Ultra," features an external screen and can be opened like a book to double its original screen size.
After years of speculation and months of rumors, the company is finally ready to unveil the phone at its Surprise and Shine event, which will be held on Wednesday, September 9. At this annual conference, it will also reveal the iPhone 18 Pro, featuring upgrades to its processor and camera.
Predictions indicate that the price of the foldable phone will exceed $2,000, and it may be difficult to find even if you are able to pay this exorbitant amount. The reason for this is due to a global crisis in electronic chips, where artificial intelligence companies are competing for the same components, which has raised their prices and reduced their quantities, and has already forced Apple to increase the prices of most of its devices.
In addition to the foldable screen, the phone is expected to have a new processor, 12GB of RAM, a C2 battery-saving system, and a larger battery.
But the slim, foldable design may come with compromises, such as replacing facial recognition technology with Touch ID and removing the telephoto camera found in the "Pro" versions.
The operating system will need to adapt to two separate screens, and Apple has added software changes to deal with this challenge.
The final name of the phone is still uncertain, despite the use of "Ultra" in other products, and the name may change at the last minute.
The iPhone Ultra is designed using technology largely borrowed from last year's iPhone Air, which was considered a test case for a similarly thin design. Neither the iPhone Air nor the base iPhone 17 will be updated at the September event, as Apple is focusing solely on premium phones this year, with updates to the more affordable models expected next spring.
