Iran's civil aviation authority is stepping up diplomatic and legal efforts to restore flights suspended due to US pressure, including filing an official protest with the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Abuzar Shiroudi, head of Iran's civil aviation authority, said his office was continuing to coordinate with the Iranian Foreign Ministry to take all legal steps to remove all obstacles to flights and restore flights.
He confirmed that a formal protest against the US flight restrictions had been submitted to ICAO, along with supporting documents detailing the flight disruptions experienced.
Since the restriction of direct flights to Europe, a number of airports in the region, including Istanbul, have become alternative transit points for flights to Europe from Iran.
Shiroudi said Iran had also filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, following attacks on airports, aircraft and radars.
He said ICAO had granted Iran's lawsuit, while legal proceedings in The Hague were still ongoing, with the compensation amount to be determined by the court.
The Iranian civil aviation official added that Tehran was continuing its efforts to restore flights to a number of countries that had been suspended and was seeking an explanation through diplomatic channels regarding the matter.
Regarding the airports in Baghdad and Najaf, Iraq, Shiroudi confirmed that Iraqi authorities have committed to restoring flights to Iran, with flights to and from Najaf set to resume in the coming days.
