Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has expressed his confidence that striker Alexander Isak will have a good season after scoring twice against Ipswich, leading the Reds to their first Premier League win of the season.
Isaac suffered injuries during his first season with Liverpool, scoring just four goals in 22 games, but he scored twice against Ipswich to take his tally to three goals in three games this season.
"As for Isaac, if he is fit, ready and in good condition, I think he will achieve the required numbers," Iraola said after the match.
The Spanish coach continued, "My demands of Isaac will probably not be related to goals, but to other things. I will ask him for other things so that we can play well, because if we play well, we will find ourselves in good positions, and then the goals will come."
He added, "He needs to contribute to the team effort and realize that when everyone helps each other, the goals and assists will follow."
Dutchman Cody Gakpo also shone brightly, setting up both goals in the win against Ipswich Town after widespread speculation about his possible departure from Liverpool during the summer transfer window, with both Tottenham and Manchester City interested in signing him. However, Liverpool refused to let him go, and Iraola was not surprised by the level shown by the international player.
Iraola explained, "I had no doubts about Coady. He was very good throughout preseason, started the season very well and delivered outstanding numbers."
He explained, "After his two assists, he played as a striker to help us win the game, and I think it's good to have Coady because he can play in all three attacking positions. Having him with us at this stage of the season is a good thing."
He concluded by saying, "I think Cody knows how much we appreciate him, there's no doubt about that. I appreciate him very much."
