The post came in the wake of an attack launched by Iran in response to new US strikes targeting the country earlier on Tuesday evening.
This escalation comes as part of an ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran that began Sunday night, when US forces targeted Iran’s Larak Island, after Washington said it had spotted launch pads preparing to fire missiles loaded with sea mines.
Iran responded by targeting US forces in the region, with the Revolutionary Guard announcing the bombing of two air bases hosting US forces in Jordan, in addition to the Al-Minhad air base in the UAE . Amid the escalation, Tehran denied the American account regarding the missile launch platforms, describing it as "fabrication" and "fantasy" .
As the confrontation widened, the Revolutionary Guard announced on Tuesday morning that it had targeted an oil tanker with three drones and sea mines while it was trying to cross the Strait of Hormuz off the coast of Oman, under American protection.
Following this, the United States launched new strikes on Iran on Tuesday evening. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the attack came "in response to recent attack attempts by the Revolutionary Guard against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and against US personnel deployed in the region."
A US official confirmed to Fox News that "attacks on Iran are continuing," while another official told Axios that the number of US airstrikes overnight could reach 100.
