The program’s presenter, journalist Marcel Ghanem, attacked the reformist MP Elias Jaradi because of his change of political position and his recent rapprochement with the “Shia duo,” and his comparison of the former Secretary-General of “Hezbollah,” Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, to Jesus Christ.
In a fiery introduction that spared no one, including MP Paula Yacoubian, Ghanem said, “In an era of bootlickers seeking seats, flattery has reached the point where one of the newcomers to Parliament, riding the wave of revolution and change, likens the leader to Christ, in line with the current wave of pro-Hezbollah and pro-resistance Christians, who are being promoted to suggest that the Christian community is not opposed to the Iranian party.” He added, “The pronouncements of this visionless ophthalmologist, whose insults to religion are intertwined with attempts to cling to a seat on the Amal-Hezbollah lists, have made his expulsion from predominantly Christian border villages his daily bread.”
He continued, “His voice in the House of Representatives became an alarm bell for the virtual mouthpieces of resistance to applaud as if the Che Guevara of Lebanon had been resurrected, or dignity had risen up on the tongue of the greatest sycophant who deserves the award for political lamentation and laughing at the voices of the people!”
Yacoubian responded to her colleague in a very scathing manner, calling him “Ghanem’s tragedy.” Among other things, she said, “I had vowed to myself not to be drawn into personal squabbles, but his eloquence crossed the line. And who is more eloquent than Ghanem’s tragedy when he lectures on integrity? A little poet whose changing of watches and ties was far less frequent than his moving between payroll lists, which he left no stone unturned in, representing the lowest and most despicable forms of clientelism, and the most offensive to the media, or rather, to cheap advertising.”
She added, “The mouthpiece of the regime comes out tonight with his usual rudeness, distributing his lies and pre-paid advertising poisons. He even went so far as to attack the paid media, forgetting that he is its godfather and its undisputed leader and rival,” considering that “this person no longer exposes anything but his own reality, and his insults, which falsely claim to be media, have become a badge of honor for the one being insulted, because being insulted by the likes of him is a testament to perfection.”
Yacoubian continued, “The head of the advertising syndicate came out tonight with his face uncovered, appearing as a slave to two masters, paying their bills, defending the political recklessness of the former and the media and behavioral deviance of the latter. There is no need to deny what comes out of this person, since what comes out of his mouth is advertising filth bearing, in general, the seal of quality in hypocrisy. But duty compels us to point out that this advertising tragedy will remain a symbol and a witness to an era in which Marcel became a disgrace to opportunism, a flag of the age of decadence, indeed, its very bottomless abyss.”
She concluded, “Fairness dictates acknowledging that Marcel Ghanem’s name will be immortalized in history as a descriptive insult. Finally, I find myself one hundred percent in agreement with him on the statement that Nasrallah is not the Messiah, even though it comes from the modern-day Iscariot.”
Upon being informed on air of Paula’s response, Ghanem again rushed to respond in the presence of Environment Minister Tamara Zein, saying, “Paula Akdoubian has released some of her poison, and the problem is if we say the truth about you, we are labeled as sexists,” adding, “The problem is your conduct and behavior; watches and ties are not an accusation… You were cheaper at lunch.”
He continued, “So, Paula, you’re the mouthpiece of the system, what are you then? You didn’t leave anyone out of your mouthpiece. Don’t act tough and play the victim. As for the vulgar media, you were begging us to look at it to the point that in the end I blocked you.” He concluded by saying, “You’re a lowlife, you have no value. We’re talking about landfills and waste anyway!”
