The wave of angry criticism against Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of Saudi Arabia’s Al-Nassr, continued following the crushing 4-0 defeat to UAE’s Al-Ain in the AFC Champions League.
"The Don" was not spared from the fierce public and media attack, as he was held largely responsible for the technical decline and the failure to leave any offensive mark during the Al Ain match.
In this context, media figure Saud Al-Sarami, the former official spokesperson for Al-Nasr Club, joined the list of critics, questioning the usefulness of Ronaldo continuing with the team and suggesting his departure during the upcoming winter transfer window.
Al-Sarami said in a television interview: "I do not rule out Ronaldo leaving in the winter transfer window of his own volition... He has become a spent force, unable to add anything, and he must leave."
Al-Sarami explained that Ronaldo's departure represents an opportunity for the management to rebuild the team and strengthen the positions that are most in need, especially the midfield, to address the obvious deficiency.
