Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian , who is leaving Tuesday for New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, pledged to firmly defend his country's positions during these meetings amid the ongoing conflict with the United States.

State Pezeshkian as saying before leaving Iran, “We emerged from the war with our heads held high, and this is a source of dignity and pride for all of us. Therefore, we will firmly defend our positions in international forums.”
He continued, “We will take full advantage of this opportunity to highlight to the international community the difficult situation that Iran is going through. We will emphasize to our adversaries that the Iranian people have remained steadfast despite all the injustice.”
Pezeshkian is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday.
Pezeshkian is the highest-ranking Iranian official to travel to the United States since the outbreak of war in the Middle East following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran in February.
Although the United States allowed part of the Iranian delegation to attend the United Nations meetings, it imposed restrictions on them similar to those applied last year, according to the US State Department.
The reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz remains a focal point of the dispute between Tehran and Washington.
Since the start of the US-Israeli war, Iran has largely closed the Strait of Hormuz, through which, before the war, one-fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas exports passed.
In contrast, the United States is imposing a blockade on Iranian ports and escalating economic pressure on Iran to financially strangle it.
