Deputy Chairman of the DPD RI Papua Special Committee, Filep Wamafma, in Sorong on Monday, said the visit was conducted to obtain information directly from the regional government, community leaders, traditional leaders, women's leaders, and other community elements.
"We came to meet directly with regional heads and the community to understand a number of issues in the region," Filep said during a meeting at the Southwest Papua Governor's Office.
He explained that the DPD RI Papua Special Committee was formed to respond to various dynamics and conditions in Papua, particularly related to three main aspects, namely human rights issues, the implementation of special autonomy , and national strategic programs that have a direct impact on the community.
According to him, these various issues need attention because there are still concerns in society, including conflicts that have resulted in civilian casualties.
"As the situation develops, the DPD RI is called upon to examine the dynamics and conditions in Papua regarding the civilian casualties," he said.
Filep said a number of regions, including Maybrat Regency in Southwest Papua and the Moskona area in West Papua, still face problems that need to be addressed seriously.
In addition, the Papua Special Committee will examine the conditions of refugees in a number of areas as part of mapping the problems in Papua.
