The Israeli army said in a statement that the two soldiers were killed as a result of an accident that occurred in the northern Gaza Strip, while Hebrew media reported that an army drone crashed inside a military site and then exploded when the two soldiers approached it.
The indicated that the two killed were Reserve Sergeant Ofek Mualem (23 years old) and Reserve Sergeant Nadav Kili (24 years old), adding that “soldiers from the 16th Brigade were operating a drone north of the Gaza Strip, and for a reason that is not yet clear, it crashed inside an Israeli army site.”
She explained that when the two soldiers approached the drone to inspect it, it exploded, confirming that the army has suspended the operation of this type of drone until the initial investigation into the incident is completed.
For its part, the Israeli occupation army has opened an investigation into the killing of the two soldiers, explaining that the incident occurred on Thursday afternoon at one of its positions in the northern Gaza Strip.
A ceasefire agreement has been in effect in the Gaza Strip since October 2025, as part of a plan announced by US President Donald Trump, while Israel continues to violate the agreement.
