The Iraqi and Omani national teams will kick off the matches of the 27th edition of the Gulf Cup football tournament, "Gulf 27", on Wednesday, as part of the first round of the group stage.
The Gulf Cup matches, "Gulf 27", will be held at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium "Al-Inma" and Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Sports City, from September 23 in Jeddah, until October 6, 2026, with the participation of 8 national teams: Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Qatar and Yemen.
The Iraqi and Omani national teams are in Group A along with the Saudi and Kuwaiti national teams, while Group B includes the Bahraini, Emirati, Qatari and Yemeni national teams.
The top two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals, where the winner of Group A meets the runner-up of Group B, while the winner of Group B faces the runner-up of Group A.
Iraq occupies second place in the list of the most decorated teams in the Gulf Cup with four titles, behind Kuwait, which holds the record with 10 titles, while Saudi Arabia and Qatar have won the tournament three times each, and Oman, Bahrain and the UAE have won the title twice each.
In contrast, the Omani national team is looking for a different start in the current edition, benefiting from its experience in the tournament, after winning the title twice, most recently in 2018, and also reaching the final of the 25th Gulf Cup before losing to Iraq in the final match.

The Gulf Football Federation announced the list of channels and entities that have obtained the rights to broadcast the "Gulf 27" competitions, and it includes so far: Qatar's Al Kass channels, Oman Sports Channel, Shasha platform, MBC and Saudi sports channels.
