The club expressed its disappointment and surprise at the decision, reiterating its claim of innocence regarding the accusations leveled against it, and asserting that it possesses, according to its statement, evidence that it said proves the validity of its position on all points of the case.
Manchester City said in a statement: "The club is innocent of the charges brought against it by the Premier League, and there is a comprehensive body of evidence that supports all of its positions in this matter."
The club confirmed that it will use all available organizational and legal means to appeal the decision, and set October 2nd as the deadline for submitting the appeal.
Potential sanctions against Manchester City are scheduled to be discussed in a separate hearing, meaning the current decision does not represent the end of the matter.
The case dates back to February 2023, when the English Football League brought 115 charges against Manchester City relating to breaches of financial rules during the period from 2009 to 2018. The independent committee concluded that the club was guilty in the vast majority of the items investigated.
