Turkish club Trabzonspor has announced that it is taking legal action against commercial entities that use the name, image, and jersey of its Egyptian star Mohamed Salah in promoting products and advertising campaigns without authorization.
The club explained in an official statement that Salah's transfer to its ranks created a great deal of excitement inside and outside Turkey, but it also noted that some companies have resorted to exploiting the player's name, image, and Trabzonspor jersey for commercial purposes.
Trabzonspor confirmed that Salah wearing the team's jersey does not give any third party the right to use his name or image for commercial purposes, stressing that promoting products and services in a way that suggests cooperation or endorsement from the player is not authorized.
The club indicated that these practices may constitute a violation of the rights related to Mohamed Salah’s image and personality, as well as Trabzonspor’s rights to its brand, reputation and economic value.
The Turkish club revealed that it has already begun documenting the illegal advertisements and commercial uses, stressing that it will take the necessary legal and penal measures against the violating parties.
Trabzonspor stressed that Salah's great popularity and the fans' love for football do not justify exploiting the player's or club's rights commercially without obtaining legal permission.
This move comes amid a great deal of public interest that accompanied Salah's transfer to Trabzonspor, after the Egyptian star quickly became one of the most prominent factors attracting fans and tourists to the city.
