Trump said he must decide whether to reach a deal with Iran or “destroy” the Islamic Republic.
"Hopefully, they'll do the right thing quickly before it's too late. You know there will come a time when it's too late," Trump said on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
The US president added that the United States is completely isolating Iran financially and exerting pressure on Tehran as part of Operation Economic Outcast.
In late August, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent outlined Operation Economic Outcast.
The isolation campaign targeting Iran and the countries that support it is intended to block any potential sources of revenue that fund Tehran.
On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel attacked several targets in Iran, to which Tehran responded in kind. After months of exchanges of fire, in mid-June, Tehran and Washington signed a memorandum of understanding on the cessation of hostilities.
However, the mutual attacks continued not long after.
Currently, the conflict remains unresolved. However, Washington has chosen to increase its economic pressure on the Islamic Republic in an attempt to end the conflict by placing additional financial pressure on Tehran.
