A tragic accident resulted in the death of two junior football players from Talkha Sports Club in Dakahlia Governorate, Egypt, during a training camp held in the city of Gamasa, while two other players were injured
The rescue teams moved immediately after receiving a report from officials of the football team camp at Talkha Club, stating that 4 players had gone into the sea to swim, before being swept away by the current due to their inability to swim.
Rescue teams succeeded in rescuing two players, one of whom was taken to the hospital in critical condition to receive the necessary medical care.
In contrast, the body of player Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed Al-Sabahi, who resided i⁷n the Nabrouh district, was recovered, while rescue teams found the body of the second victim, named Abdullah Omar Abu Taleb, who also resided in the Nabrouh district, on Wednesday morning.
Hazem Saadallah, head of the steering committee of Talkha Sports Club, announced in a post on his Facebook account the suspension of all sports activities at the club for 3 days in mourning for the death of two of the team’s players.
Saadallah confirmed that the board of directors did not issue any statement regarding the establishment of special training camps for the players, either from the board or any official at the club.
He added that if it is proven that there are arrangements or procedures to hold the camp without the approval of the Board of Directors, then these are considered individual actions for which those in charge of the camp bear responsibility.
He indicated that the club will take the necessary legal measures, while informing the relevant authorities to investigate the incident, with the aim of determining its circumstances and identifying responsibilities, and absolving the club, the board of directors and club officials of responsibility.
For his part, Ahmed Hamdi, one of the camp organizers, revealed in a post on his Facebook account that the incident began after a number of players left their accommodation under the pretext of buying breakfast, before heading to the beach.
Hamdi confirmed that he took responsibility for the incident, noting that previous instructions stipulated that players should not go down individually.
