The new Marvel Wolverine game, which is released exclusively for PlayStation 5, has received the lowest average ratings among all exclusive platform games in recent years, according to a report by the American tech website Kotaku.

The game's rating on the Metacritic review aggregation platform reached 77 points based on approximately 117 critical reviews of the game before its release.
The game is developed by the renowned Insomniac Games studio, which has previously produced games that have garnered widespread public and critical acclaim, such as the Spider-Man series, which was released on the current and previous generations of PlayStation consoles, as well as on PC platforms.
The website's report stated that achieving an average rating of 77 is no easy feat in the gaming world, especially with a large number of critical reviews for the game, but compared to the rest of the studio's and platform's games, it makes it the lowest-rated.
But why did Marvel's Wolverine specifically receive such low ratings compared to other Insomniac games like Spider-Man 2, which received an average of 90 reviews from about 145 critical reviews?
Frustrating gameplay
Kotaku’s report suggested that the reason for the low ratings was the gameplay, which seemed overly tedious and boring, as the game offers a linear experience based on pressing buttons at the right time to perform tasks.
This reason is consistent with the review given to the game by the American newspaper "The Washington Post," which described the gameplay as "consumable".
The review stated that part of the reason for the disappointment of reviewers and players with what emerged from the game was the high anticipation for it because it comes from a studio that has delivered a large number of successful games in recent years.
The category of fast-paced button-pressing games, also known as "Quick Action," is one of the popular low-budget game categories. It does not give users any freedom to move the character and completely controls their experience.
The game received a number of similar criticisms from players around the world, even though it was released yesterday and players have started accessing it, but most of the criticism came from review clips and even the game's promotional clips.
Some users described the game as being closer to mobile phone games with a higher cinematic level and greater precision.
Huge costs
Despite the game's rudimentary gameplay, its price on the PlayStation store reached $70, in line with the prices of other leading games that have recently been released on the store.
This has angered social media users, as a number of them pointed out that the price of the game is not commensurate with the experience it ultimately offers.
